Singleton Birch held a series of open days in July 2007 at their Melton Ross site in North Lincolnshire. Schoolchildren, invited guests and members of the public were taken on guided tours of the quarry, plant and process.
753 attendees visited over three days. The purpose of the open days was to inform neighbours and stakeholders of Singleton Birch’s business activities and environmental responsibility. For many attendees, it was a chance to see what the company is all about and have a fun day out.
Exhibitions, displays and activities included Mineral Products Association, HSE, Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, Fire Brigade, Red Cross, together with lime production, fossils, lime sales - where does it all go ? and Singleton Birch company history.
Simon King, wildlife cameraman and presenter from The Big Cat Diaries, was on hand during the schools day and gave a series of fascinating talks about his many experiences in the wild.
